Honors and Awards

TOCS maintains a system of formal honors and awards for several reasons:

  1. The recognition of good work is endorsed in the scriptures, from the writings of Solomon (Proverbs), to those of Paul (Romans, Ephesians, I Timothy, etc.). Therefore, we seek to publicly recognize those students accomplishing the necessary prerequisites to receive the applicable award/honor.
  2. We hope to encourage the motivation to good work among all the students by demonstrating to them that such work is not overlooked or taken for granted, but rather it is noticed and commended.
  3. We want to draw public attention to the high quality of work being done by our students, to the glory of God and their parents.

There are two levels of academic honors for elementary school students on a quarterly basis:

There are three levels of academic honors for secondary school students awarded on a quarterly basis:

Awards given at various times through the year

End-of-year awards:

Award recipients will be recognized at the end of each quarter and/or at the annual awards banquet.

Partnership with Homeschool Families

Tall Oaks Classical School is pleased to partner with homeschool families as they seek to educate their children in the home setting, but may desire their children to be in weekly group classes such as P.E., Chorus, Art or Music Theory. Tall Oaks also partners with families who are looking for assistance in teaching advanced upper school courses such as (but not limited to) the Sciences/Labs; Greek; Rhetoric; Theology, etc. Extra curricular activities such as Drama Club, Spanish Club, Intramural sports or possibly even varsity sporting teams may also be an option for homeschool students.

A La Carte Policy

After regular enrollment has ended, selected classes are made available for qualified applicants from outside the fulltime regular enrollees of Tall Oaks.

Students who enroll as a Tall Oaks "a la carte" student must commit to attending all classes for which they have registered and been accepted, on a regular basis for one academic school year unless providentially hindered. The student will be considered an integral part of the class with all the rights and privileges thereof, and, therefore, will be expected to do all class assignments, projects, tests, etc. A report will be issued each quarter and a certificate will be issued at the end of the year, certifying that the course has been taken, completed and passed.

Students are expected to wear uniforms to class and to abide by all general policies applicable to full time Tall Oaks students as delineated in the Parent-Student Handbook including receiving demerits and doing restitution for those demerits.

Students are expected to arrive for the class on time and then leave when the class is over. Students may not stay at Tall Oaks unattended. The parents are asked to contact the school office if they are going to be late in picking up the student.

Attendance as an "a la carte" student does not qualify the student to participate in activities of the school unrelated to the particular class taken (Protocol classes and events, etc.). The student is invited to attend all field trips as relates to their specific class and must pay additional admissions fees particular to the event. Arrangements may be made to take PSAT or ERB tests on a per test cost basis.

Interested families are required to apply to Tall Oaks through the regular admissions process and to include a $50.00 family application fee with their application. Classes for 2007 - 2008 school year begin Monday, August 27 and end the last week in May, 2008. There are considered to be thirty-six weeks in one academic school year. Any extra places in the classroom are made available to eligible a la carte students. Courses in the Grammar grades which may be made available include Latin, Choral Music and Art. All Dialectic/Rhetoric courses are available. Each child is limited to ten class meetings.
